Blow the party horn, it's New Year’s!
It's Rosh Hashanah ("head of the year"), the Jewish New Year.
And we are blowing horns to celebrate. But the horns aren't plastic and they don't stream confetti.
We blow horns made from a ram. Because God said so.
And we blow them for a purpose. Because God said so.
The noisemakers of secular New Year’s celebrations have no purpose, except to make noise.
But the sound of a ram’s horn on New Year’s is meant to be a proclamation.
A proclamation of God's intimate relationship with us - it's the traditional anniversary of His creation of Adam.
A proclamation of God's sovereignty - a new season begins; the planet continues to spin and circle.
A proclamation of God's faithfulness - we've made it through the highs and lows of the past year.
A proclamation of God’s kindness - a chance to start over.
A proclamation of God’s forgiveness - the Day of Atonement is just ten days away.
With trumpets and the blaring of the ram's
horn, shout out praises before the king, the LORD! Psalm 98:6 NET
Father God, on this New Year, we blow the horn to celebrate your personal relationship with each one of us, and to joyfully proclaim Your sovereignty and Your faithfulness, Your kindness and Your forgiveness!
